Ashraf Mahomed is an attorney with rights of appearance in the High Court. He has acquired experience in various areas of the law, and specialist expertise in public interest and high court litigation, constitutional law, administrative law, public law, labour law, alternative dispute resolution, land reform law and project management, reviews and investigations.

Ashraf is an Adjunct Associate Professor in Public Law at the University of Cape Town.

He was appointed as an acting judge of the High Court (Western Cape Division, Cape Town) for two terms and dealt with various civil and criminal matters.

Ashraf is the Chairperson of the Heritage Appeal Tribunal appointed by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Sport, and presides over appeals against decisions by Heritage Western Cape relating to proposed developments.

He is the principle author and editor of two books on land tenure law. He also lectures at the LEAD School for Legal Practice in Cape Town.

Ashraf serves as a board member of the Dullah Omar Institute (DOI) for Constitutional Law, Governance and Human Rights. He is a longstanding member of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADEL), and previously served on its NEC.

Ashraf completed two terms as President of the Cape Law Society (CLS) and served on its council and various committees. He is currently registered as a practicing attorney with rights of appearance in the High Court in terms of section 4(2) of the Right of Appearance in Courts Act 62 of 1995
